University of Texas building ID theft web site

AUSTIN, TX

Texas Comptroller Susan Combs got the money as a rider to the current state budget and said Thursday she hoped the center would enable people to better manage identity risks.

The Austin American Statesman says the money over the next two years will result in a free web site with tools and resources about security threats and information for everyone from children to retired people to businesses. The site is expected to be up and running this summer.

Combs' office was victimized in 2011 and the breach put 3.5 million Texans at risk for ID theft.
