Police: Speeding driver caused wreck that killed 2 on Hwy. 288

HOUSTON

Relatives are still in shock after losing two loved ones in an early morning accident.

Police say around 2:30am a suspected drunk driver in a silver Cadillac rear ended a family in a tan Honda on Highway 288 near Airport Road at a high-rate of speed.

"We have independent witnesses that say the vehicle was traveling in excess of 100 miles per hour," said Sgt. J.R. Roberts with the Houston Police Department. "(The) vehicle made an abrupt lane change and took the Airport exit off 288 and struck another vehicle from behind that had already taken the exit."

Grandfather Lee Fisher told Eyewitness News at the scene his 15-year-old granddaughter Donna Davis died along with his daughter's fiancé Joe Ledet, 35.

"My granddaughter is a very sweet, loving, bright and intelligent young lady," Fisher said.

His daughter Donna Reynard and 3-year-old granddaughter Leslie Ledet are both taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital. Authorities say right now, it doesn't appear they have life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the other car was also taken to the hospital. He's suspected of driving while intoxicated. If tests come back positive police say he'll face two counts of intoxication manslaughter.
