Jerry Moon's loved ones opened the casket at the end of an emotional memorial, only to discover the body had a plastic bag over the head. His son Brian Moon says he was sickened at the thought, but quickly came to realize it wasn't even his father inside.
The family later determined that Jerry's body had somehow gotten mixed up with that of a 97-year-old man who died at the same time. The wrong man ended up in Jerry's casket, wearing his clothes and with a photo of Jerry and his wife tucked under the pillow.
As the final insult, relatives say Jerry's remains were cremated, something they say he was terrified by the very thought of.
The family has hired an attorney. Mortuary officials declined to comment.
