Construction set to begin for toll road along Highway 249 in Tomball

TOMBALL, TX

Area officials broke ground Wednesday morning on the $335 million project. The first phase will be finished in 16 months, and will create a new toll road, three lanes in each direction from just north of Spring Cypress to the Tomball bypass.

The area suffers from heavy traffic congestion and is also quickly growing.

"As soon as it opens, and people figure out where it is and how to get on and off, I think it'll be a very big difference," said Tomball Mayor Gretchen Fagin.

Phase two of the project will extend the toll lanes into Montgomery County. The Harris County Toll Road Authority will be working with Montgomery County to complete that part.
