They organized a softball tournament in southwest Houston to raise funds for Captain William Dowling.
Four firefighters were killed in the blaze that injured Dowling and 12 others.
Teams of firefighters from across the area faced off against each other along with some teams made up of police officers.
Even though they don't all know Dowling personally, they consider themselves part of one big family.
"The situations that you're in, when we go on calls, you have to know that that person next to you has your back and is ready to do anything he can to help you out of a bad situation," said Maurice Williams with Sugar Land Fire Department.
Both of Dowling's legs were amputated, and he remains in the hospital three months after the fire.
