A newborn who was found left by a dumpster this weekend in southeast Harris County is staying in state custody after an emergency court hearing Monday.

The baby boy, who was just a few hours old, was found wrapped in a black T-shirt behind a dumpster Saturday morning at an apartment complex on Beamer. He is being treated for minor breathing issues and low blood sugar, but is otherwise healthy.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is questioning folks in the apartment complex as they search for any leads as to who may be the parents. Anyone with information can call HCSO or Crime Stoppers.

CPS officials have already identified a foster home for the child. He will go to his foster family once he's discharged from the hospital. It's unclear when that may be.
