Authorities said a man they believe hit his 8-year-old nephew with his pickup truck Wednesday night in the Cy-Fair area is now in police custody.

The accident happened around 8pm as the boy and a friend were playing on the sidewalk on a dead end on Skylight lane at Silver Sky Lane.

Authorities say the man behind the wheel was 32-year-old Randy Jenkins, Jr., the victim's uncle.

Investigators told Eyewitness News that Jenkins was reportedly driving his pickup truck erratically, lost control and went up the sidewalk where the two children were playing, running over his 8-year-old nephew.

The other child, Colby Race, says Jenkins got out of the truck and told him to call 911. Jenkins then reportedly went home and took off in another vehicle before police could arrive. He was found and arrested this morning.

Jenkins' nephew was transported by LifeFlight to Memorial Hermann Hospital in critical condition. We're told he suffered head trauma.

Jenkins is facing a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
