Fire officials get call of explosion in NW Harris County

In northwest Harris County, someone called 911, saying they saw an explosion in a back yard.

When firefighters arrived at a home on Maxim near Mars Drive, they found a deck in the backyard on fire. There were also flames in the attic.

Firefighters put out the fire before the home sustained major damage. They say they brought extra units and responded cautiously because callers had reported an explosion.

"The initial call we got, neighbors had reported that a propane tank had exploded in a backyard," said Robert Rasa with the Cy Fair Volunteer Fire Department.

The homeowner says he did not have a propane tank. Arson investigators are working to determine what started the fire.
