House destroyed by fast moving fire near downtown Houston

HOUSTON

The fire started around 4:15am at the vacant home on Winbern and Delano.

Residents reported seeing huge flames and ran out of their homes.

"The lady that lives here came to woke me up because the fire was about to touch my house," said nearby resident Sheila Howard. "So, I grabbed my purse, no shoes and I just ran out."

HFD crews say it was so intense that they were forced to go defensive immediately. The fire is now out. Fire crews are putting foam to get rid of any hot spots.

Residents say the house is vacant, but it is known to have squatters inside. One resident says she thought she saw a woman go into the house last night. Firefighters did at least three searches of the home to make sure there is no one inside. They believe there was not anyone inside the home.

Arson investigators are on the scene to help to determine the cause of the fire.
