Man accused of killing homeless man with brick

HOUSTON

Police were called out to the scene on Rusk near Bagby around midnight.

Investigators say a group of homeless men were gathered at a makeshift homeless camp underneath a bridge when a fight broke out between two of the men. Witnesses stated the two men began arguing over drugs and then began to shove each other. The witnesses separated them and one man left the area.

A short time later, the man returned and began verbally and physically arguing with the victim until witnesses once again separated them. The suspect then picked up a brick and struck the victim in the head. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene and the killer fled on foot.

"The deceased pushed the suspect, who then turned around with a brick and hit him upside the head, which knocked him to the ground and now he's deceased," said Jeff Rexroad with the Houston Police Department.

Houston police say Andrew Gregory Ealy, 22, has been charged with murder in the case. He was taken into custody at about 11am in the 1300 block of Capitol near Caroline in downtown Houston.

The identity of the male victim, 32, has not been released.
