The personal side of Texans star J.J. Watt

HOUSTON

Win or lose on Saturday, there's one thing we know: J.J. Watt has officially cemented his status as an NFL superstar on and off the field. In just his second year on the team, the 23-year-old defensive end has rocketed to fame and become a fan favorite.

He downright refuses to complain in any way about it, but such star status means when Watt isn't on the football field, he's spending a lot of time at home.

"I don't really go anywhere anymore. Can't go to the grocery store, post office, dinner. Always have to plan my moves smartly and set up ahead of time. Fans are awesome, but there's no quick in and out. Photos and autographs which I love, but sometimes it's easier to stay home," Watt told us.

"That's why we come to town more often so we can do his things for him. He has to have a friend help. He can't really go out. It's pretty difficult; everything takes longer," said his mother, Connie Watt.

One of the most eligible bachelors in Houston quietly holed up at home. But Watt says he's a simple guy who one day wants a simple life.

"I'm just trying to find the right girl. I'll definitely settle down and start a family. That's who I am. I'm a Midwestern kid, find the right girl, start a family," he said.

Think finding the right girl would be easy for the NFL's "it" guy? Watt says, think again:

"It's extremely difficult. You want to find someone who likes you for you, not for fame, football, or the fortune. Someone who likes you," said Watt.

His father, John Watt, said, "It's hard. We tell him to make the right decisions, do the right things, even as far as dating. We don't expect him not to date, but just to make the right decisions, and so far he has."

"It's not always easy to find, but I'm hoping she's out there," Watt said.

His dad gave us some fan advice. His son is happy to sign autographs and take pictures, but if he's out at a restaurant, he really wants to eat. Ask before the food arrives or after he's eaten, and he's happy to oblige, but please let him eat.
