Lawmakers want answers from cancer-fighting agency

AUSTIN, TX

Sen. Jane Nelson of Flower Mound and Rep. Jim Keffer of Eastland wrote the law creating the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.

The Dallas Morning News reported Saturday that they have written CPRIT, seeking a written explanation of what occurred.

Their letter said CPRIT "cannot succeed in its efforts to fight cancer without the public's trust, and right now that trust is in serious jeopardy."

Nelson is chairwoman of the Senate Health and Human Services Committee. She has promised to introduce a bill for next year's legislative session strengthening oversight on CPRIT.
