Report: Nearly half of Houston roads poor or mediocre

HOUSTON

A highway industry group says Texans spend $23 billion a year navigating poor and congested roads. Eighteen percent of the state's major urban roads are in poor condition.

Here in Houston, the report found 47 percent of major roads are in poor or mediocre condition. That leads to accidents that cost drivers an average of $1,900 a year on repairs and gas and time wasted sitting in traffic jams.

The report says the problem will get worse without road improvements.
