YMCA Operation Backpack kicks off this week

HOUSTON

The annual event is Houston's largest school supply drive. It helps tens of thousands of students head back to class with all the right supplies.

Other donation drop-off sites include area YMCA, Shoe Carnival and participating H-E-B locations.

The drive ends August 12.

If you would like to make a donation, there are some easy steps to follow:

1. Purchase a new backpack for an elementary or middle school aged child at your local retail store.

2. Buy school supplies and put them in the backpack. Click here for a list of recommended school supplies.

3. Write a note of encouragement to the child and place it in the backpack.

4. Drop off completed backpacks at participating locations between July 19 and August 12.

If you cannot donate a completed backpack, you can drop off any school supplies at any YMCA in the Houston area or participating sponsor locations.
