Arrest made in shooting that killed 3, injured rapper

HOUSTON

The triple shooting happened two weeks ago at a club on Westpark near Tanglewilde. At that time, detectives told us they were having a tough time getting witnesses to come forward about that shooting. But this week it was ultimately a tipster that lead police to the accused gunman.

Houston police are now calling Feanyichi Uvukansi one of the suspected gunmen behind a deadly shooting outside this Westpark club after a rap concert featuring 'Trae tha Truth' wrapped up on June 20.

"This defendant fired multiple times, striking the main complainant, as well as two other complainants that were standing nearby," prosecutors said Thursday in court.

When we showed up to Uvukansi's house on the southwest side, a man there told us his family believes the 24-year-old is innocent of the capital murder charges he's now facing.

"I couldn't believe it," said one neighbor who didn't want to be identified.

They told us they're also shocked over Uvukansi's alleged involvement in the triple murder.

"He doesn't even seem like that type of person," said the neighbor

Eyewitness News has learned Uvukansi is a documented member of a gang called The Bloods. Investigators say his intended target that deadly night outside the club was a member of the Forum Park Crips, and one of the three victims who died.

We've also learned an anonymous tip lead detectives to Uvukansi, and witnesses identified him from a photo lineup as one of the gunmen.

Police say innocent bystander and single mother of three, Erika Dodson, was killed, along with Coy Thompson and Carlos Dorsey. Rapper Trae tha Truth was one of the two injured victims, along with Willie Watkins, who police also called an innocent bystander.

The rapper's publicist told us he is still recovering. She says his shoulder was shattered from a bullet that's now permanently lodged in his body.

Uvukansi is being held in jail without bond. His criminal history includes criminal trespass, criminal mischief, assault of a public servant, as well as a couple of drug charges.

Police say they are still searching for more suspects. They are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
