Neighbors pull disabled man out of burning house

HOUSTON

The blaze broke out just before 2pm at a home on Mackinaw Street at Maywood St. near Sam Houston Parkway and South Post Oak Road.

Michael Murray said he was sleeping inside the house when the fire started. When he woke up, his neighbors were carrying him out of the home.

"I was asleep and everybody was pulling on me. I didn't know what happened," Morray said.

Firefighters said the neighbors saw the smoke and flames, called 911 and ran inside.

No one was injured.

Officials said the blaze started in a workshop behind the house and spread into the home. The workshop was completely destroyed and the home was heavily damaged. They are looking into what caused the fire.
