Darrell Prince-Tico Mitchell, 19, is charged with felony injury to a child. On January 28, a neighbor called police out of fear that Mitchell was hurting his son. The witness told police he could hear Mitchell growling and the baby screaming inside their apartment.
An officer entered the apartment and found Mitchell squeezing the baby tightly and putting him in and out of a shower with the water running, according to court documents. The officer wasn't able to talk Mitchell into handing the baby over, so he used force to take the child away, and when he did so, Mitchell allegedly bit the boy on the chest.
The police report said that the baby was crying and flushed, had a bite mark on his chest and scratches on his body. The boy's grandmother took custody of the one-year-old.
Mitchell's bail has been set at $5,000.
