Taxi fares in Houston on the way up

April 1, 2011 3:30:42 PM PDT
It will soon cost you more to hitch a ride in a taxi around town. Starting Friday, taxi drivers in Houston were authorized to charge a 50 cent fuel surcharge to trips longer than two miles. Taxi drivers are required to have a sign in their cab stating the charge.

You can thank the rising price of gasoline for the charge. The average price for a gallon of gas in Houston now stands at $3.52.
