HOUSTON --A day after the county passed the budget, some commissioners have started laying off people. Multiple sources tell Eyewitness News that precinct 2, commissioner Jack Morman's office, began laying off people at 9am Wednesday. Sources say he's expected to lay off 60-70 people.
On Tuesday, commissioners approved a $1.2 billion budget, which forces every county department to make cuts. The cound already had more than 1,000 jobs county-wide unfilled.The Harris County Sheriff's Office also has to make cuts, but so far, no layoffs have been reported in that department or others.
