Police search for boyfriend of dead woman

HOUSTON Authorities say Rhonda Sue Scott died of a gunshot wound. Investigators want to talk to her boyfriend who's being called a person of interest.

Well-wishers placed flowers outside the garage of Scott's northwest Harris County home off Garden Landing and Flowing Oak .

"Unfortunately, bad things happen to good people and she was a good person," said neighbor Carol Holcomb, as she placed flowers outside the garage of her neighbor's home.

Deputies say Saturday afternoon Scott, 49, was found dead inside that garage, discovered by a family member who called sheriff's deputies after Scott couldn't be reached by phone.

"They hadn't heard from her and they are in continuous contact with her on a daily basis and became concerned because she hadn't answered her phone," said Sgt. Felipe Rivera with the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Neighbors were stunned.

"Our neighbor next door had seen her, we'd seen the car at the mailbox Friday afternoon and then seen the car go into the garage, so we are not sure if it was her or possibly someone else," said Holcomb.

"She was a very quiet lady, very nice lady. She wouldn't harm people or bother anybody," said neighbor Daniela Sosa.

Scott's red Camaro was missing, but was later found in northeast Harris County.

The focus of the investigation has narrowed as authorities are now calling Joe Amos Shaw, Scott's boyfriend, a person of interest. In 1982, Shaw was sentenced to 35 years for attempted capital murder in Bell County and is currently out on parole until 2026.

Neighbors say Scott had little company, but was mostly seen with her boyfriend. Now they want to know what happened to their quiet neighbor inside her garage.

"I feel sorry for the family that they have to go through something hard like this," said Sosa.

Relatives, too upset to talk on camera, didn't have much to say as they went inside Scott's home Monday afternoon to claim some of her personal belongings.

Scott's sister didn't know too much about Shaw. All she told us is that he's from Alabama.

Shaw, 53, is considered a person of interest, but so far no criminal charges have been filed.

Neighbors have said they've seen Shaw driving Scott's car before.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
