The Coast Guard got some help from good Samaritans in the rescue of four passengers in a sinking vessel 20 miles off the coast of Galveston Saturday morning. The Coast Guard received a mayday call from a boat owner shortly before 8:30am that they were taking on water. A rescue helicopter and vessel were sent to the sinking boat.

Before the Coast Guard arrived, two good Samaritans came across the sinking boat and gave the people on board a dewatering pump to keep it from going under.

When the Coast Guard chopper arrived, a rescue swimmer was lowered to the scene, and was able to help stop the flooding. The Coast Guard vessel then escorted the pleasure craft back to Galveston.

It's not known why the pleasure craft took on water. There were no reports of injuries.
