Robbery suspect commits suicide after car chase

HOUSTON The man had entered a cell phone store at the intersection of FM 2978 and FM 1488, lifted his shirt to show his weapon to two employees inside, deputies said. The man pointed the gun at the men and said "This is not a joke," before demanding cash.

Witnesses called 911 after the robbery and gave the operator the vehicle's description and said it had turned on FM 1488 and was heading toward Interstate 45.

Montgomery County sheriff's deputies spotted the suspect's vehicle and began chasing the car. The suspect led deputies through the Forest Hills Subdivision and went back on Interstate 45 North before turning south at River Plantation Drive.

The suspect made tried to turn into a driveway leading into College Park Shopping Center, but he collided with a deputy patrol car and a third vehicle, ending the 9-mile chase.

The suspect then shot and killed himself as the deputy reached the suspect's vehicle.

His identitied hasn't been released by authorities. An investigation is ongoing.
