Woman dies in SW Harris Co. apartment fire

Flames trapped and killed a woman in an overnight fire in southwest Harris County.The flames broke out at the Vinings of West Oaks Apartments at Gray Ridge near Addicks-Clodine just after 10:30pm last night. Firefighters say the flames were so overwhelming they couldn't initially get inside.

Residents say they heard a resident screaming from the third floor. That portion did collapse and hours later, a woman's body was recovered on the second floor.

"The police officer said that he was talking to her, telling her to jump, but she wouldn't," said resident Michael Carlin.

Investigators aren't releasing any more information on the woman at this point.

Four firefighters were hurt. Two were sent to the hospital for burns. Two others were treated at the scene. No word on any of the firefighters' conditions.

There's also no word on the cause of the fire.
