Houston City Council has signed off on the coming year's budget. It's about $4 billion, and under it, many city departments will cut costs by 2 to 3 percent.

Council members passed the budget Wednesday evening after a lengthy session.

The city had to make cuts to deal with a shortfall in tax money.

The new fiscal year starts July 1.
