Right now, though, a lot of disaster relief organizations need cash more than anything else. Meantime, the volunteers are putting in a lot of hard work while waiting for word from loved ones in Haiti.
"It's disheartening," said volunteer Natalie Alexandrie. "It's one of those things that we're definitely praying for the families, the four million people in America who are Haitian decent."
The disaster relief drive at the Multi-Ethnic Community Center located on 9819 Bissonnet in southwest Houston runs from 7am until 10pm.
Items needed for Haiti relief:
- Cash donations
- Hygiene products
- Nonperishable food
- Warm weather clothes
- Medical supplies, including ace bandages, bandages, gloves, gauze, saline, antibiotic ointment, alcohol pads
- Sleeping bags
