Trang Van, 18, was alone yesterday evening in the family's home when something caused the recent Cy-Fair graduate to run and hide in her closet. That's where the father of the aspiring teacher found her around. She was dead, the victim of an apparent gunshot wound.
"I was really surprised because this is a very quiet neighborhood," said neighbor Vicente Siribian.
Neighbors are stunned that such a violent crime happened just steps away.
"Anybody who has children, regardless of age or gender, it's difficult to absorb the news," said neighbor Madhu Sanghavi.
The call to 911 came in as a home invasion, but investigators say there are no signs of a forced entry or a struggle. Family members feel the killer may have been someone she knew. For now, it's a mystery.
There is some question as to when the victim was shot. The last time a family member talked to her was around 12:30pm Thursday. She tried to call her several times after that, but never reached her. Family members say they don't know of a boyfriend or anyone she's dated in the past who may have a vendetta.
Police have seized the teen's computer and other personal items that may help them solve this case. If you have any information on this crime, you're asked to call the Harris County Sheriff's Office.
