Grandmother admits murdering grandson, 4

SAN ANTONIO, TX Santa Magdalena Campos had been on trial on a capital murder charge. Her attorney, Jack McGinnis, says her plea Wednesday keeps alive her hope for receiving a parole after 30 years. Even though prosecutors weren't seeking a death sentence in her case, a capital murder conviction would have still meant a life sentence without parole.

Prosecutors say paramedics found 4-year-old Jeremiah Santos bruised and unconscious in his granmother's home in January 2007. Medical examiners determined he died of internal bleeding of the brain.

Campos was carrying for the boy and five other grandchildren after her daughter and son-in-law were imprisoned for drug convictions.
