HPD searching for carjacking accomplice

[FULL COVERAGE: Eyewitness News coverage of the DeJesus case]

HPD investigators told us that Nicholas-Michael Jean has said very little about an alleged accomplice. They did say that the 21-year-old confessed that DeJesus was killed within hours of being abducted.

Investigators also told us that Jean admitted to being present at the time of the killing, but he did not admit to killing her. Jean said DeJesus was shot to death in a trailer on Knight Rd. where her body was recovered.

The motive was robbery as Jean wanted to steal a high-end vehicle. Authorities called the attack on Dejesus purely random.

Investigators said they don't know Jean's reason for confessing, only that he is trying to minimize his role in the actual crime.

HPD investigators said they hate to think what might have happened had Jean not been caught.

"I think this is a guy that would've continued to do what he does until he got caught or shot or street justice took care of him," said Sgt. Jon Brooks.

Harris and Brazoria Counties both are in talks trying to figure out where the charges are going to be filed.
