A car wash was held in southwest Houston on Saturday to raise money for three-year-old Roland Mitchell.

Roland and his family were driving in a low-rider car rally last Sunday when their vehicle burst into flames.

Family friends say Roland is doing better, but he'll need thousands of dollars in medical treatment.

"His eyes, he can open them. He's moving around a little bit. He has to stay on his stomach because of the burns on his back. He did have the belt burned on his face, so they're going to do surgery to get that done," said Lorena Trejo who organized the fundraiser.

Members of the low-rider community nationwide and as far away as Canada have contributed to the fund for Roland and his family.
