City leaders say they're facing a nearly $2 million deficit and say it could quadruple by the end of the fiscal year. Because of that, the city is already under a hiring freeze and could soon start looking at making layoffs. It's blaming a drop in revenue due to Hurricane Ike.

This morning, UTMB in Galveston will continue laying off workers. Yesterday, the medical hospital laid off workers in individual meetings. In total, about 3,000 workers are getting pink slips because the hospital faces huge money trouble also due to Hurricane Ike.

UTMB hopes to have everyone notified about the layoffs by next Monday.

St. Joseph Medical Center is hosting a job fair today. It's to help those laid off UTMB employees or anyone else find a new job. The job fair runs from 10am until 4pm at the pavilion at 1401 St. Joseph Parkway.
