The Harris County Office of Emergency Management has been activated, meaning it's working on extended hours. They typically wait to do that until a storm moves into the Gulf, but with the holiday weekend, they want to make sure all key personnel were in place if action needed to be taken before the weekend.

The OEM held a conference call with the state this morning and representatives from the Coast Guard, American Red Cross, Salvation Army and law enforcement took were on hand.

We've been talking to emergency offices from around the area and all told us the same thing, that they're keeping key personnel in town this weekend.

Also, as for evacuations, those would be done a day before landfall. So depending on the path and timing of the storm, that might have to be done over the long holiday weekend.
