Palestinian poet dies in Houston

An award-winning Palestinian poet has died from complications of open heart surgery here in Houston. Mahmoud Darwish won numerous international prizes and his work has been translated into more than 20 languages. He was a vocal critic of both the Israeli occupation and the Palestinian leadership.

He died yesterday at the age of 67. One Palestinian lawmaker says "we have lost part of our essence."
