Councilman takes on street vendors

HOUSTON Council member MJ Khan visited the vendors that set up along the streets. He wanted to make sure they had the proper city permits. While most were in compliance, Khan says they're in violation of the spirit of the ordinance. He says it was intended for temporary vendors in town for a short time. Not for long term sales.

"They should not be an eyesore for our neighborhoods," Khan said. "And if they're doing it as a business, then citizens of Texas and Houston need to have their sales tax paid."

Khan says he hopes to get other council members to join his fight and change the code so there are a lot fewer open air shops like these around Houston.
