HEMPSTEAD, TX Police say it started around noon when an armed suspect, identified as JamesEddie McDow of Dickinson, went into the Trustmark Bank in the small town and demanded money. The employees inside gave him the money. McDow reportedly left and no one was injured.

The pickup truck police say McDow was driving was spotted on a county road about four miles away. When police and deputies approached the vehicle, the shootout started. McDow was hit once in the arm before he fled, nearly hitting an officer as he tried to get away.

There was then a short chase, in which speeds reached 100 miles per hour. It all ended at a city park when McDow T-boned an officer's vehicle. After a short struggle, McDow gave himself up.

McDow has a gunshot wound to the arm and has been taken to a local hospital.

Police say McDow will likely face charges, including robbery, assault on a police officer and felony fleeing.

The officers and deputies involved in the shootout are all going to be OK.
