Young returning to UT to finish degree

NASHVILLE, TN The former Longhorns are enrolled full-time for the spring semester, an official in the registrar's office said Friday. They were the Titans' top picks in the past two drafts.

Young had a year of eligibility remaining when he left for the NFL in January 2006 shortly after winning a national championship. He was taken third that year by Tennessee. Griffin was taken 19th by the Titans in 2007 after completing his eligibility at Texas.

Major Adams, Young's agent, did not immediately return a telephone message from The Associated Press on Friday. But Adams told The Tennessean in a story on its Web site that Young is approximately two semesters shy of his degree and hopes to finish by the spring of 2009.

Mike Mu, Young's marketing manager, said Young is changing his major from liberal arts to education and early child development. He is taking about 15 credit hours this semester and might be able to complete his degree with some online courses, Mu said.

Mu said the degree was important to Young because he made a promise to his mom when he decided to leave school early for the NFL.

Young and the Titans have a busy offseason ahead with a new offensive coordinator. Coach Jeff Fisher fired Norm Chow on Jan. 15 and hired former coordinator Mike Heimerdinger to juice up an offense that managed only nine touchdowns passing in 2007.

The Titans start their offseason program March 24 with their on-field sessions tentatively scheduled between April and June. The spring semester at Texas wraps up May 13.

Griffin is majoring in youth and community studies.
