Wrong way driver slams into several vehicles

HOUSTON (KTRK) The driver was headed the wrong direction on the North Freeway near Quitman at the time. Police say he was highly intoxicated and driving northbound in the southbound lanes. The driver hit several vehicles before colliding head on with a woman who couldn't get out of his way in time.

She had to be pulled from her vehicle with the Jaws of Life and was rushed to a hospital in critical condition. The suspected wrong way driver was not hurt and police arrested him at the scene.

Officers had the freeway shut down for several hours. It's back open now.
