Major road closure: I-10 downtown closed all weekend

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- We could see some major traffic issues this weekend after TxDOT shut down I-10 downtown.

The highway will be shut down between I-45 and Highway 59 until 5 a.m. Monday.

The areas between Brooks Street and Commerce Street are being redone, and as a result, several entrance and exit ramps are also blocked in the area.

If you are driving through this area, here is what you need to know:

Traveling eastbound

Detour to I-45 Gulf Freeway southbound to US-59 Eastex Fwy northbound back to the I-10 eastbound mainlanes.

Traveling westbound

Detour to US-59 Eastex Fwy southbound to I-45 Gulf Freeway northbound back to I-10 westbound lanes.

While we haven't seen any significant traffic jams yet this morning, they are expected later today.
