A man has been charged after a wrong way crash involving a deputy. Sharron Melton reports.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- Liobardo Reyes, 24, has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault on a public servant in connection to this morning's head-on collision on Clay Road at War Memorial Drive.

A woman was killed and a deputy with the Harris County Sheriff's Office was badly injured in the crash.

Investigators say the deputy, D. Johnson, was traveling eastbound on Clay Road in a marked patrol unit when Reyes' Ford Fusion struck the front left driver's side of the deputy's vehicle. Reyes was reportedly driving westbound in the wrong direction of the eastbound lanes.

The deputy was badly injured and taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital via LifeFlight. The deputy is said to be alert and responsive while undergoing treatment.

Reyes was airlifted to the same hospital for treatment. A female passenger in that car was pronounced dead on scene. She has not yet been identified.

The accident scene is still under investigation. Clay Road between N. Eldridge and Highway 6 is closed until further notice. Drivers should avoid the area if possible.
