Training downpours could lead to street or flash flooding Tuesday

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- With this wet and stormy pattern continuing this week, Tuesday is an ABC13 Weather Alert Day with the potential for street flooding and flash flooding across portions of Southeast Texas.

The heavy downpours from earlier this morning have tapered off across most of Southeast Texas, though some light rain liners with the cloudy conditions. College Station is still picking up moderate rains that could lead to flooding Tuesday afternoon. Many regions north of I-10 are reporting wet roads with ponding, including some minor area flooding in portions of southwestern Montgomery County. That's where an Areal flood Warning is in effect as well as several Flood Advisories. The rest of the day Tuesday will be on the drier side, though isolated showers and storms could still form and bring brief heavy downpours as the pass by. The cloudy sky will also keep things cool and damp with temperatures having in the upper 70s or low 80s today.

Conditions overnight will remain on the drier side though still cloudy, cool and muggy. By Wednesday more moisture will coming in from the west which will allow for showers and storms to form in the morning hours and conditions off and on through the early afternoon. While these storms don't look to be as widespread as Tuesday, some could produce locally heavy rainfall that could lead to minor ponding on roads and some street flooding too.

When does this stormy pattern come to an end?

There will be more scattered storms on Wednesday, capable of street flooding in a few areas. By Thursday the tropical air will be gone and the rain chance will drop to 30%. Most of the showers will pop up in the afternoon heat and dissipate with the setting of the sun. Rain chances will continue to drop by the weekend, allowing high temperatures to soar into the middle 90s.

What are you tracking in the tropics?

For now it's all about the Saharan dust tracking through the main development region of the Atlantic basin. Meanwhile there are several waves to monitor in the Pacific. Visit our Tropical Update page for a more in-depth tropical weather discussion and forecast.
