HCSO said it was possible the man was pushed down the shaft at the construction site.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) -- An investigation is underway on Monday following the death of a man who fell into a shaft at a construction site in northeast Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff's Office.

Sheriff Ed Gonzalez posted on social media that the incident occurred in the 15800 block of Sheldon Ridge Way, near Garrett Road, around 7:40 a.m.

The sheriff's office confirmed to ABC13 that the 46-year-old man was involved in a physical altercation with his co-worker near the area before he fell. HCSO said that the man fell approximately 30 feet and was pronounced dead by EMS personnel. His body was recovered by fired department personnel, the sheriff's office said.

HCSO said that the co-worker and others were detained and were being interviewed by homicide detectives.

According to HCSO, detectives were advised this case would be presented to a Harris County Grand for review.
