HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- Our cool front that moved through early Tuesday is now lifting north as a warm front bringing back moisture to SE Texas. This will result in muggy conditions, warm temperatures, and isolated showers Thursday. Rain chances increase through the day Friday...peaking overnight Friday into Saturday morning as a pacific cool front moves in.
There is another Pacific front coming through Texas this weekend, but we have to wait until after the weekend to get a more significant dose of cooler air back in Southeast Texas. Our next cold front is penciled in for Wednesday of next week, and that one should drop highs into the 60s and lows into the 40s.
Rain chances will increase to 40% late Friday into Saturday morning as the next Pacific cool front blows in. Temperatures will start in the mid 60s and warm into the upper 70s. Sunday's rain chance drops to 30% with a similar temperature range.
Rafael made landfall in western Cuba Wednesday afternoon as a Cat 3 hurricane. Now the hurricane will track west heading into the southwestern Gulf (or possibly down into the Bay of Campeche) by late this weekend into early next week. It does look like conditions will be a bit more hostile for Rafael in the Gulf, so we anticipate weakening as it tracks through the Gulf. No impacts are expected here in SE Texas except for possibly elevated surf. Head to our daily Tropical Update page for a complete look at what we're covering in the tropics.
