Waitress details violent carjacking that landed her in hospital
Cassie Anderson, 24, suffered gunshot wounds to both of her legs as she tried to help a woman being carjacked by a man in southwest Houston.

HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A young waitress whose legs were shot up as she tried to help the victim of a carjacker is speaking out only to Eyewitness News about the pain and help she still needs.

The shooting happened Sunday on Westheimer road near Kirkwood.

She was in a wheelchair, legs wrapped up and one bullet still lodged in her left thigh.

"That's the bullet, oh and it hurts," said Cassie Anderson pointing to the bullet still in her leg.

This was not the way the 23-year-old was hoping to ring in the new year.

"It's going to be a rough year but I'm trying," she said.

Laughing about the situation, she said, helps her forget about the pain.

"I start freaking out if I don't keep on smiling or laughing," she said.

It was on Sunday at the Bull and Bear Tavern in west Houston, Anderson heard a commotion outside. She walked out to help a customer and that's when she realized someone was carjacking a woman.

"A male got out of the car I shouted, 'What the hell are you doing?'" she said.

Moments later, that man pulled out a gun and Anderson ran.

"It was like boom boom," she described.

But the man shot both her thighs and took off.

"I felt this hot sensation in the back of my legs and then I felt them and they were bleeding," she said. "(Doctors said) it didn't hit bone or artery so it may be a year (to heal)."

Maybe it might take even longer. Anderson doesn't have insurance to pay for surgery or physical therapy.

"It's a scary situation," she said.

Here's what finally brought the young woman to tears, she's engaged. She was hoping to get married in the new year but now she's afraid walking down the isle may not be a part of her future.

"I'd like to walk again. That'd be awesome," said Anderson crying.

A GoFundMe account has been set up for Anderson.
