VIDEO: Sparks fly in wild U-Haul truck chase captured on camera

MT. CLEMENS, MI (KTRK) -- Dash cam video shows the moment Michigan deputies got into wild pursuit of a U-Haul truck last week near Detroit.

Officers shred the truck's tires, but the driver keeps going, riding on the truck's rims.

Authorities say it started when deputies tried to pull the driver of the U-Haul over for equipment violations. Instead, the driver led them on a chase across multiple cities.

It finally ended with driver losing control, crashing into a tree in front of a home. The driver and his passenger quickly gave themselves up.

Macomb County Sheriff's Office Lt. John Michalke told local station WXYZ, "We were lucky traffic was light... because everyone's safety is paramount."

Three law enforcement officers were hurt in the chase, but were treated and released from the hospital.

Authorities say the U-Haul was stolen and one man is now charged in the case.
