Trapped cat driving wedge between neighbors
Bunny has not had anything to eat or drink in 10 days, her owner says

SACRAMENTO, CA -- A cat stuck in a tree for 10 days is driving a wedge between two neighbors.

Monica Montoya says her cat Bunny has created a huge dilemma for herself after she became stuck or began hiding in a neighbor's hollowed-out oak tree.

A rescuer says they found the cat with a chain and padlock around its neck, and it'd been tangled in a thick underbrush full of thorns.

"She comes out at night and she goes to the end, and she just cries and cries all night," Montoya says. "It's gotten to the point where I've got to close my door because she's crying too much and I know she is starving to death."

The firefighters have come by twice to rescue the cat, but because the tree is hollowed out, there is risk the fire department may have to cut the tree down.

A Cary woman rescuing a cat needed rescuing herself.

The neighbor whose home is adjacent to the tree told firefighters they don't want the tree brought down, setting into motion trouble between the two people.

Animal welfare groups say Bunny's rescue is an urgent matter.

We'll update this story as it progresses.
