HOUSTON (KTRK) -- A bizarre scene played out on Highway 59, where a suspect crashed his car, fought with authorities and was fatally struck by a passing motorist.
Several agencies were called to the scene of an auto pedestrian accident near Highway 99 at 1:30pm Tuesday, including Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office, DPS and Sugar Land Police.
According to a Sugar Land spokesperson, a deputy and a constable noticed someone they say was driving erratically. When they attempted a traffic stop, the driver made a hard left turn and struck the center wall. The suspect jumped out of his car and reportedly started fighting the officers. They say he then broke free and ran off, when he was struck by a civilian vehicle.
The suspect was taken to a hospital by Life Flight, but later died from his injuries. His identity has not been released.
The southbound lanes of Highway 59 were shut down for hours, reopening at 4pm.
