HOUSTON (KTRK) -- METRO-operated HOV lanes across Houston are back open after a system malfunction prevented the lane gates from opening during the morning rush hour.

The only HOV lane that was open Tuesday morning was the I-45 North southbound lanes at the North Shepherd entrance.

We're hearing due to an overnight house fire at Cortlandt and East 37th Street in northwest Houston, a Comcast cable was damaged. This cable also serviced the gates that allow motorists to enter and exit the HOV lanes managed by METRO.

METRO was waiting for power to be restored before it reopened the gates.
