More commuters expected today but are the roads ready?

HOUSTON, Texas (KTRK) -- There are plenty of roads, mostly side streets, that remain closed. The west side of town is hit especially hard, as residents are still dealing with high water caused by the release from the Addicks and Barker Reservoirs.

Many Houstonians will be expected to get back to work, and in some cases, school, and that means a lot more vehicles on the roads.

METRO plans to open the HOV/HOT lanes today except for on I-45 North. Park & Ride locations will also begin today.

Drivers will find more of I-10 east reopened near the city.

To help ease congestion, HCTRA and the Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority have waived tolls on all toll roads.

A number of roads in west Houston are still blocked, including Highway 6, Gessner and Fry. This could cause some congestion as drivers look for alternate routes.

This is also true for the West Beltway, which isn't expected to reopen for at least another week and possibly up to 10 days. The roadway is still completely underwater just south of I-10 at Memorial.
