HOUSTON (KTRK) -- To get you in the spirit for Halloween, we asked ABC-13 viewers for their favorite horror films to watch around the holiday. Here are the top 10 answers we received:

The Exorcist (1973)

In the most frightening flick on our list, a mother enlists the help of two priests who fight to save a teenage girl who has been possessed by Satan.

Halloween (1978)

A man has been in an instiution since murdering his sister as an early child. After he escapes from the facility, he returns home to seek revenge on teenagers in the town on Halloween night.

The Shining (1980)

A caretaker at a haunted hotel gets cabin fever and attempts to kill his family while they're snowed in at the resort. All the while, spirits try to warn the psychic son of what's to come.

IT (1990)

Seven adults return to their childhood home to fight evil that has resurfaced that takes the form of a child-murdering clown.

Pet Sematary (1989)

After a tragic accident, a family buries their dead child in an enchanted cemetery hoping he will come back to life. Instead, they are terrorized by his evil, resurrected body.

Poltergeist (1982)

Evil spirits kidnap a small child and keep her trapped inside a telelvision. The child's family seeks the help of a psychic to bring her home.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)

A group of teenagers staying at a cabin in the woods encounter a chainsaw-wielding maniac and his family of cannibals.

Nightmare on Elm Street (1984)

Angry parents set fire to a building, killing Freddy Krueger, a child molester and murderer who avoided prison time. After his death, Krueger returns to seek revenge on his killer's children. He murders the children in their dreams with a razor-clawed glove. Freddy Krueger was reimagined in 2010, but ABC-13 viewers prefer the original.

Psycho (1960)

In the Alfred Hitchcock classic, a woman goes missing after checking into a hotel run by Norman Bates and his dominant mother. As others investigate her disappearance, more death follows.

The Conjuring (2013)

This is the newest horror film in the list and it's based on a true story. In "The Conjuring," evil demons terrorize a family, and the family seeks the help of paranormal detectives Ed and Lorraine Warren.
