HOUSTON (KTRK) -- If you have unpaid tolls, expect to get a letter in the mail. The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, or METRO will soon be mailing out notices to toll violators and giving them a chance to get rid of the bill.
If you get one of the letters, you'll have 45 days to pay the tolls plus an $11 fee per violation.
If you don't pay, your account will be handed over to a collection agency and the fees will increase.
This only applies to METRO-operated toll lanes, including I-45, US-59 and US-290. It does not apply to toll lanes operated by the Harris County Toll Road Authority (HCTRA).
Toll road users may inquire about the status of their account by contacting METRO HOT Lanes Customer Support at 713-462-5263.
