WICHITA FALLS, TX -- A 77-year-old North Texas man remains jailed after police allege he tried to assault his roommate with a hammer over a rent payment.

The Wichita Falls Times Record News reports Frank Talamantez has been charged with aggravated assault family violence.

According to an arrest affidavit, the roommate told Wichita Falls police that Talamantez beat down his door with a hammer on Dec. 11 and started swinging the hammer at the roommate.

The roommate, who was not identified, was not hurt but Talamantez used the hammer to destroy the man's property.

Talamantez was arrested and taken to the Wichita County Jail, where he remained Saturday on a $10,000 bond.

Jail records did not list an attorney for Talamantez.
